308 SW PureTech Petrol 110 test: Should you buy your first station wagon at a price? – Car Magazine

The Peugeot 308 SW has been very successful in its 180 hp and 130 hp diesel hybrid versions and is still fully recommended in its base configuration equipped with a less powerful petrol engine (110 hp) and in the finish call (Allure package). Enough space, comfort, a minimum of pleasure at the wheel, suitable equipment, voluntary drive and low consumption, all at a moderate price. What simply raises the question: Why spend more?

Simple but not simplified

With a length of 27 cm compared to the five-door, or 4.64 m in total, the “Made in Mulhouse” engine offers the same petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants as this one. And no need to extract the claimed 46,450 euros for the Hybrid 225 version, the 110 hp PureTech petrol engine already offers a lot. Obviously, whoever says the first price says limited choice, and this engine is only offered in the Active Pack, which is the least attractive of the range. It makes do with streamlined front clutches, a grille without chrome inserts, and ignores the dark-colored side windows and rear window and is satisfied with the 16-inch rims. This does not prevent the Lioness from exaggerating the effects of style, such as the spoiler that adorns the frame. The same topo on the plane, where Some will be happy to find real buttons to manage the air conditioning, instead of i-Toggles, these tactile shortcuts are on the second level from the end, Allure. The atmosphere is elegant and if the inevitable i-Cockpit isn’t a panacea for all drivers, the 308 station wagon is in perfect condition to face the road.

Silence on the plane

However, only a 110-horsepower 3-cylinder engine is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s a little hanging and arranged a little high. in

The replacement allows you to get the best of the small 1.2-liter capacity, which is bulkier than it looks thanks to the turbo. We would like it to be more responsive at just under 1500 rpm and less affected by the impact of the engine in town. But it is fully functional on the road and on the highway, convincing its discretion and availability, knowing that it is enough to shift to fifth gear to overtake in complete safety. The long gear of the sixth has the advantage of sparing the ears at 130 km / h and the wallet, since this 308 SW is guaranteed 6.5 l / 100 km at that speed … less than many plug-in hybrids, such as Renault Mégane Estate E-Tech (7.3 Liter). On average, the Peugeot station wagon requires only 6.5 liters. As it is, with a reasonable weight (1,330 kg) and precise aerodynamics, there is no need to rush technologies to save fuel.

Comfort above all

When driving, it is the comfort of the ride that immediately attracts attention. Being a 16-inch content block with a fairly high sidewall, the 308 SW filters out road imperfections better. This Peugeot has proven surprisingly comfortable for the driver alone on board, it does not cause a jump of the rear axle because it is installed to support the load. This station wagon is a lot of fun to drive, the small steering wheel adds liveliness to the feel. Even if agility, even more so than a sedan, takes second place in favor of balance. But no one will blame this 308, which takes advantage of its size to provide a suspension worthy of the name 380 dm³. And if you don’t qualify for the lift-off boot floor (provided by Allure), towing tabs for tilting the backrests 40/20/40 are there, as is the luggage lid, which rolls quickly. Owners of the previous 308 SW will answer that they have a larger trunk (425 dm³) and more spacious rear seats, with at least 3 cm more legroom to accommodate passengers. This does not prevent this new generation from showing a beautiful homogeneity in this PureTech 110 variant sold for 27,400 euros, when the PureTech 130, with a smoother city-state engine, but hardly more efficient in absolute terms, claims 1,520 euros. ).
